My friend Sture's records from our trip to Portugal in 2000.

Burgau
As mentioned earlier, you need to get a car or some transportation to see the sights. We set out to explore westwards from Lagos. Make sure you take the small coastal road.

Nice walk-about in Burgau

Fishermen's wharf and beach in Burgau

Keep left!
Like in the old computergame Wolfenstein, we kept going left. Doing that, you will not miss anything. Not all are worth while seeing. Our first stop was the small village Luz. OK, but nothing more. We kept left/west, and made a stop in Burgau. A steep, narrowwalked village with some nice sights. The beach is nice, and mixes nice in with the local fishermen's wharf. Burgau has few restaurants, but drinks and a bite is possible. A new restaurant is being set up on the beach this summer. Many british people have found this place.

Burgau borders on the new nature reservation stretching west and north all along the coastline. This is set up to protect the coast from further development. Nice thought.

The road west from Burgau switches to a dust-road, and you need to be careful with your car's tires. Arriviing in Salema, we sat down for some food and a swim.

This is the main area we covered on this trip. West from Lagos towards Sagres and north along the coast as far as Sines. Lagos/Sines is about 150 km.
