We set our minds on travelling further up along
the west-coast. Turning north at Vila do Bispo, the road took
us through a nice landscape. The road pleasantly shaded by
trees most of the way. We made a pit-stop at Aljezur.
The main church in Aljezur is very pretty.
Beaches at Carapeteira
The beach at Odeceixe |
On our way north Along the way we made detours to the
coast, and found many nice, quiet spots. Some were
pretty spectacular. The sand-dunes and river
outside of Carapateira is well worth seeing. A
small bar near the beach offers refreshments.
In Aljezur we hang a left up through the steep,
narrow citystreets up to the castle-ruins
overlooking the entire region. The city itself
does not offer a lot, except from a few drunken,
stoned german leftovers from -68. In a shop we
found a dusty backgammon-board hidden behind lots
of junk. Why do they never play this game in this
country???
We continued north towards Odeceixe. The road
suddenly dips down a shaded valley, and you find
yourself smack down in the center of town.
Odeceixe is pretty. In high season there are many
backpackers in the age-range from 18-50. It offers
nice nightlife as well. A room for the night is
easy to find. Outside the town, 5 km out
towards the sea lies a big, spectacular beach.
Here as well it is dominated by a big river
flowing out across the beach. A few restaurants
offers refreshments.
